From the link, part of the “mainstream view:

That King David was a real king who lived and ruled.

This is misleading. While there may have been an actual Israelite king who happened to be named David (and I assume this is as far as the mainstream view goes), this is not the same as saying that the events described in the Bible surrounding King David are in any supported. One might as well wonder if there really was a lumberjack named Paul Bunyan.
