Fodor is such a tool. This does nothing but make philosophy look worse.

There has been a disturbing trend, just in the past year, of ID ideas finding shelter in philosophy. There is Fodor, but also Thomas Nagel, and Meyer’s Signature in the Cell is aimed at the same audience. Michael Egnor has tried on his blog (and failed far worse than the aforementioned) to make similar arguments to the general point that a mind/body split proves there is “something more.” It’s a shame that philosophy has allowed itself to be hit by the ID and ID-sympathetic wrecking ball.

Regarding the first point – what might almost be worst is philosophically incompetent scientists “reviewing” Fodor’s book. I really hope philosophers of biology will get their hands dirty and publish reviews in the public press.

Has anyone heard of the exchange Fodor had with Steven Pinker over his book ‘How the Mind Works’? Check this out.

Wade Anes: A Reply to Jerry Fodor on How the Mind Works

Wade, I get a ‘Session Cookie Error’ page when I try the above link.

(FWIW: The Fodor link and the the Pinker PDF in your last post, though, work fine.)

Wade, the following link works and seems to be what you referenced;

I don’t know if there’s a more legitimate link available publicly.

I know I’m a bit late on this topic but a commenter above linked Jerry Fodor to ID and I was just wondering where he got that idea from? Surely someone can raise scientific issues with “natural selection” without getting thrown in with the Discovery Institute crowd.
He has a debate with a well known Darwinist here:
